 *Scientific References in Ramayana - 4*

Vanaraja Sugriva asked the vanarasena to go to the east in search of Janakandini (Daughter of King Janaka ) Sita and accordingly gave complete information about which countries, mountains and seas they would have to cross.

Kishkindha Kanda 40 verses 53,54 and 55

🚩 *त्रिशिराः काञ्चनः केतुः तालस्तस्य महात्मनः |*

*स्थापितः पर्वतस्याग्रे विराजति सवेदिकः ||* 🚩

Above the mountain, the golden flag with palm symbols will be seen by you.  The flag has *three crests (trident) (trishirah)* and an altar is built on the lower base.  Thus the flag has gained a lot of adornment.

 🚩 *पूर्वस्यां दिशि निर्माणं कृतं तत् त्रिदशेश्वरैः |*

*ततः परं हेममयः श्रीमानुदयपर्वतः ||५४ ||* 🚩

This *Taladhwaja is established by the gods as a mark indicating the boundary of the eastern direction*.  Then there is the golden mountain, endowed with divine beauty.

While traveling to the east of India, the current *Peru country* is found.  In that country there is a mountain called *Andes* (original Sanskrit word - *Adri*) on which a big trident with three Sikhs is engraved.  At its bottom is a rectangular altar which *can still be clearly seen today*.  It is known today as *The Paracas Candelabra or Candelabra of the Andes*.  According to current geography, Peru is a country on the west coast of South America.

 As mentioned in the above verse this Trisula - Taldhvaja ( trident ) marks the eastern boundary as there is no land after it.  *A mark indicating the direction of the east may have been created for planes flying through the sky. Airplanes existed during the Ramayana*.  Of course, we will get information about this sometime later.  Most importantly, the Taldhvaja (trident ) described by Vanaraja Sugriva is still in existence today.  Since he himself saw this taldhvaj, he has described it accurately.  Then *how could Sugriva have gone from India to Peru in the east?  Has he gone through the sea or through the sky?* As I said in the previous article, vanararaja Sugriva had circled the earth, so he also knew that *the earth is round*

Aranyakanda Sarg no.  23 describes the sighting of a *solar eclipse*.  When *Shri Ram and Khar Rakshasa (demon ) had a battle, there was a solar eclipse*.  It is mentioned as follows: 

🚩 *श्यामं रुधिरपर्यन्तं बभूव परिवेषणम् ।*

*अलातचक्रप्रतिमं परिगृह्य दिवाकरम् ॥ ३ ॥* 🚩

Around the sun, began to appear a circular circle like the Alat Chakra, which was black in color and *the color of the edge was red*.  

 Here *Alat Chakra means fire ring.*  In adventure games, the goal is to jump through a sphere surrounded by flames.  The eclipse was black (obscured) and the edge was red, meaning it was a *definite total solar eclipse or an annular solar eclipse*.

🚩 *बभूव तिमिरं घोरं उद्धतं रोमहर्षणम् ।*

*दिशो वा प्रदिशो वापि न च व्यक्तं चकाशिरे ॥८॥* 🚩

The most terrible and exciting darkness spread everywhere.  The clear sense of directions or angles was gone. 

We all know that there is darkness during a solar eclipse.

🚩 *कबन्धः परिघाभासो दृश्यते भास्करान्तिके ॥११॥* 🚩

🚩 *जग्राह सूर्यं स्वर्भानुरपर्वणि महाग्रहः ।*

*प्रवाति मारुतः शीघ्रं निष्प्रभोऽभूद् दिवाकरः ॥१२ ॥* 🚩

Near the sun, a *bandha like a periphery* began to appear.  The great planet Rahu began to afflict the Sun when there was no Amavasya(No Moon). The wind began to blow at a high speed and *the sun god's radiance faded*.

🚩 *उत्पेतुश्च विना रात्रिं ताराः खद्योतसप्रभाः ।

संलीनमीनविहगा नलिन्यः शुष्कपङ्‌कजाः ॥१३॥*

* Even when there was no night, the stars that shone like pearls rose in the sky.* The fish and waterfowl merged in the lake. Their lotuses dried up.

🚩 *तस्मिन् क्षणे बभूवुश्च विना पुष्पफलैर्द्रुमाः ।*

*उद्धूतश्च विना वातं रेणुर्जलधरारुणः ॥ १४ ॥* 🚩

Flowers and fruits fell.  Even though there was no wind, the gray dust rose up into the sky like clouds.

It is clearly seen that all the verses presented describe the eclipse of the sun.  *Bruce Masse is credited (as always credited to foreigners) for observing the first ever solar eclipse.*

The period of Ramayana is approx.  BC  12 thousand years - *Treta Yuga* means that Ramayana writer *Maharishi Valmiki or Lord Sri Rama should be credited for seeing the first solar eclipse. Solar eclipses are also mentioned in the Vedas.  But, it is given a more elaborate description in the Ramayana.*

 *In the discourses of the Ramayana only the story of Rama is told.  It is our tragedy that the scientific references in Ramayana do not come to light because science is not mentioned in it.*
