Scientific References in Ramayana - 1

*Scientific References in Ramayana - 1*

Today we will get the information about *Sunspots* and *Solar flares* formed on the surface of the Sun, explained in ancient Indian scripture Ramayana (approx. 12,000  years B. C. )

First let's see how sunspots are formed:

Due to the *magnetic events* occurring in some isolated places on the surface of the Sun, the temperature of that place decreases.  As the temperature of such a place is lower than the surrounding area, we see that area as *black in the form of spots*.

Now these *Sunspots were first observed by  Shri Ramachandra* and it is clearly mentioned in Ramayana by *Maharishi Valmiki Rishi*.  It is described as follows in *Ramayana Yudhkanda Sarga 41, Sloka 18*.

🚩 *ह्रस्वो रूक्षोऽप्रशस्तश्च परिवेषः सुलोहितः*

*आदित्यमण्डले नीलं लक्ष्म लक्ष्मण दृश्यते ||18||* 🚩

Let's see what this means:

O Lakshmana!  Small (ह्रस्वो ), Jejune (रूक्ष ), very bad (अप्रशस्तः) and Red Circles (परिवेषः सुलोहितः ) are seen on the surface of the Sun (आदित्यमण्डले ).  At the same time, there is a *black (नीलम् ) spot i.e. sign (लक्ष्म) visible.*

*Solar flares :*

🚩 *रक्तचंदन्दनसंकाशा संध्या परमदारुणा ।*

*ज्वलच्च निपतत्येतदाद् आदित्यादग्निमण्डलम् ॥* 🚩

A very dark evening is appearing like red blood. *This mass of burning fire is falling down from the sun*.  There is a clear mention of solar flares here.

Shriram is giving some ominous hints before fighting Ravana.  Therefore, it is certain that the demon clan will be destroyed.  It clearly mentions that *Shri Rama saw sunspots i.e. black spots on the surface of the Sun*.  Although the word Blue (नीलम्) is here, it has one meaning blue and another meaning dark, black.  If you get hit, black spots appear on your body and it hurts a lot.  So here *Neelam does not mean blue but black* and Maharshi Valmiki has clearly written it.

*It is not possible to see the solar eclipse with the naked eyes.* Basically it is not possible to look at the sun with the naked eyes (you can see the rising and setting sun. But at that time spots cannot be seen).  Now, if we consider Rama as common person, not God, then *there would have been certain advanced telescopes with which Rama would have observed the sunspots.* The description of how to make a telescope is given in the *Bhrigusilpa Samhita.* it means telescopes were existing at that time. All the information about this has been given in my previous article. It means Rama saw the Sunspot either by using telescope or he is having the supernatural power to see it. Ramayana is not a poem but a history.  Its evidence is conclusive.  *Maharishi Valmiki was very knowledgeable, so he has written down all the minute events.* I am of the opinion that the Ramayana scholars should study them from a scientific point of view *paying attention to the scientific and astronomical events in the Ramayana as well.*

Another mention of this, is found in *Rigveda*.

🚩 *सूर्यस्य चक्षु रजसैत्यावृतम् |*  🚩

The *eyes of the sun* ( सूर्यस्य चक्षु ) *covered with dust* (रजसैत्यावृतम् ) seem to refer to *solar storms* or the *Helium gas* on the sun.

As usual we gave credit to foreign scientists for observing Sunspot *The credit of seeing the Sunspot  goes to I Ching, Chinese scientist approx. BC  364.* However, even though it is mentioned that Prabhu Sri Ramachandra saw Sunspots a thousands of years before I Ching, in the Treta Yuga, it is not attributed to Sri Rama and Ramayana. *We have given this credit to I Ching instead of Rama.*

I request everyone to read the Ramayana written by Maharishi Valmiki and understand its meaning scientifically.  *It should be noted that Ramayana, Mahabharata, Srimad Bhagavata, Srimad Bhagavad Gita are not only written to praise God but also contain scientific knowledge and scientific theories.*

Thanks for reading this article. Will meet on next Wednesday with another interesting subject from Ramayana.
